Max and the Wild ThingsMaurice Sendak s Where The Wild Things Are was first published in 1963 to great critical acclaim. Brian O Doherty of The New York Times said that Mr. Sendak s work, disguised in fantasy, springs from his earliest self, from the vagrant child which lurks in the heart of all of us. Where The Wild Things Are is the first book of a trilogy that Includes In The Night Kitchen (1970) and Outside Over There (1981). The author-artist of world-renown, Mr. Sendak was awarded the Hans Christian Anderson Illustrator Award in 1970 in recognition of the excellence of the entire body of his work. This Lithograph was printed in 1971 as part of a series. Mr Sendak compiled a selection of his favorite works which were then newly re-photographed from the original artwork in the Sendak archives at the Rosenbach Museum & Library, Philadelphia; altogether 19 different designs from eight titles were chosen for this project, to allow friends and collectors the opportunity to hang a print on their wall without mutilating any of his books, some in full color and others in duotone or black line. All of them were issued unsigned. Here I am offering one of four prints from WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE. It measures 23 and 7/8ths by 14 and 5/8ths. I will combine shipping if our prints are bought at the same time.
